It is with great sadness that the Discovery Owners Club announces the death of Alan Smart. Sadly Alan passed away in the early hours of the 19th January 2007 after a short battle with cancer. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his wife Janet and their family at this time.
Alan was one of the original Committee members of the club, serving as both Club Archivist and until the last couple of months as Club Secretary where he gave all and thrived on the prosperity of the Club. His enthusiasm for the Club and indeed all things Land Rover was unrivalled, he always had time for everyone and his depth of knowledge for the Land Rover marque was endless.
Alan was also very well known outside of the Discovery Owners Club, he was also a long standing member of the Range Rover Register, as well as being a popular figure in the general Land Rover world.
It was Alan’s wish that he was to provide a trophy for the club in his memory, the Alan Smart Memorial Trophy will be awarded each year as a ‘Spirit of The Club’ award to members who have provided an outstanding contribution to the Club.
A great man, he will be truly missed, but his memory will be with us forever.
