1998 300Tdi Auto with buzzing from injector pump

I’ve inherited a fine 1998 300tdi auto Discovery. I love it, its fabulous!
Unfortunately I do not know anything about the history of the car so I have immediately replaced the cam and auxiliary belts and serviced it.
Something I hadn’t noticed before, but is very prominently evident to me now, is a very rapid loud electrical ticking sound from the injector pump, even before the engine is started (‘ignition’ on), that continues when the engine is running. The engine (which I think is an EDC Electronic Diesel Control) unit, starts, drives and stops perfectly.
Please could you spare me a moment of your skill and experience and tell me if you know what the ticking will be and if it is anything I need to attend to?
