Hi Roy/Seb

Some of the early pre pro test vehicles with the bread van fibreglass back disguise were fitted with the rostyles, that said anyone could fit rostyles to a discovery.
As Roy stated the best way is to get the chassis number, we know all the early numbers so at least could give you a steer.
I have three early Discovery,s all with the vent free dash, one is a G-WAC, the 2nd one registered on the UK launch day and the other March 1990 so the early parts span quite a period making it difficult to judge the age.
Loving the thought that any G-WAC to be worth £10'000 I,ll probably wake up from that dream soon, still I,d not now part with mine for less than £12,000 and to think last year I,d have let all five of my fleet go fo £7000 with no takers, glad I came round as 463 is now progressing well.

See I,d buy it anyway and just enjoy the journey.

Regards

Ian

Hi Seb.
I have not seen an early one with RR wheels, even the prototype, picture attached, had the usual Disco steel wheels fitted.
What is the VIN? the early pre-pros started at GA38xxxx
Roy.

Hi Roy,
Many thanks. The car was built or registered in 1989 and has Rostyle steel wheels. Would these facts be significant?
All the best,
Seb

Hi Roy,
Thank you for your help. The Disco I have found was registered abroad in '89 and has early Range Rover steel wheels. Does that sound right?
Best wishes,
Seb

Hi Seb
The lack of a vent is a good sign.
Bonnet pull on the right, smooth black cover on the rear door handle, a row of stiches missing on the seat base.
If it has a spare wheel cover, the Discovery is a sticker, not embossed in the plastic.
VIN numbers in the GA38xxxx range.
Not yet regarded by the classic folk as a Classic, but values are creeping up, you will be lucky to get a G-WAC, in any condition, for less than £10.000.
Owners with good ones wont sell.
Have a look at my G-WAC Notes, and give me a call
Roy.

Pre production Discovery 1s

Post by Seb » Fri Feb 03, 2017 7:18 pm

Hello everyone,

I was guided here by a kindly member after I posted on the LRO forum.

Can anyone tell me how you distinguish a pre-pro Discovery 1 from 'just' an early one apart from the VIN number?

Are they of value to collectors?

Does the absence of side window demisting vents denote a pre-production dash?

Many thanks in advance,
